reflects the current status of the Board’s policies and the School’s rules. If any of the policies or

administrative guidelines referenced herein are revised after April 1, 2015, the language in the most

current policy or administrative guideline prevails. The Board’s comprehensive policy manual can

The Board of Education declares it to be the policy of this District to provide an equal opportunity for all

residence within the boundaries of the District, or social or economic background, to learn through the

curriculum offered in this District.

Any person who believes that s/he has been discriminated against on the basis of their race, color, disability,

religion, gender, or national origin, while at school or a school activity should immediately contact the School

District’s Compliance Officer listed below:

Greg Roberts

Director of Human Resources

(734)783-3300

PARENT INVOLVEMENT

The Board of Education believes that durable and significant learning by a student is more likely to occur

when there is an effective partnership between the school and the student’s parents/guardians ("parents").

Such a partnership means a mutual belief in and commitment to significant educational goals for a student, a

plan for the means to accomplish those goals, cooperation on developing and implementing solutions to

problems that may be encountered and continuing communication regarding the progress in accomplishing

the goal(s). To this end, parents should be meaningfully involved in:

developing and implementing appropriate strategies for helping their child achieve the learning

objectives that lead to accomplishing the learning outcomes;

providing a school and home environment which encourages learning and augments, at home, the

learning experiences provided by the school;

providing for the proper health, safety, and well-being for their child.

SECTION II: STUDENT SAFETY AND WELLNESS

School safety is a responsibility of all members of the learning community. All staff members are

familiar with emergency procedures. Should a student be aware of any dangerous situation or

accident, s/he must notify any staff person immediately.

Students with specific health care needs should deliver written notice about such needs to the School

Office.

BULLYING AND OTHER AGGRESSIVE BEHAVIOR TOWARD STUDENTS

Prohibited Conduct

1. Bullying. Bullying of a student at school is strictly prohibited. For the purposes of this

policy, “bullying” shall be defined as:

a.

Any written, verbal, or physical act, or any electronic communication, that is

intended or that a reasonable person would know is likely to harm one or more

students either directly or indirectly by doing any of the following:

2. Substantially interfering with educational opportunities, benefits, or programs of one

or more students;

3. Adversely affecting a student’s ability to participate in or benefit from the District’s

educational programs or activities by placing the student in reasonable fear of

physical harm or by causing substantial emotional distress;

4. Having an actual and substantial detrimental effect on a student’s physical or mental

health; or

5. Causing substantial disruption in, or substantial interference with, the orderly

operation of the school.

STUDENT CODE OF CONDUCT

The Student Code of Conduct within the Woodhaven-Brownstown School District outlines the

rights and responsibilities of students during school and school-related activities, alongside the

repercussions for breaching school rules. It identifies behaviors that jeopardize safety and hinder

learning opportunities for all members of the school community, emphasizing actions that foster

positive behavior and academic growth rather than punitive measures. The district is committed

to cultivating a positive learning environment where all stakeholders, including students,
